| Orchids for Beginners | Tell a Friend! |
| |
| | Anyone can grow orchids in the home without living in the tropics or having the luxury of a greenhouse. If you have ever successfully grown a houseplant or enjoyed a flowering potted plant, you can grow orchids! The good news is that there are plenty of options to give you a beautiful display of flowering orchids year-round. Information on the care and culture of Cattleya, Phalaenopsis, and Paphiopedium orchids--including information on proper light, fertilization, temperature requirements, growing media, and repotting--will be included.
The workshop will also include a brief introduction to the many other orchids that you may be able to grow in and around your home. Delta College horticulture instructor Carol Mom will give a brief demonstration, and you will gain practical experience in division and repotting.
Required: Bring one plant with you for practice; additional plants may be available for purchase.
Supplies to pot a one-gallon orchid division are included in the low enrollment fee.
Carol Mom is a professional floral designer with an extensive background in design. |
