Trip to Ruth Bancroft Gardens & Heather Farm

Trip to Ruth Bancroft Gardens & Heather FarmTell a Friend!

Join Horticulture Instructor Andria Bersi as she leads a tour to Walnut Creek to view the Gardens at Heather Farms and the Ruth Bancroft Gardens. The first stop is the Gardens at Heather Farm, which is a living museum, an outdoor classroom, and a public garden. There are more than 20 demonstration gardens and learning sites. You will go on a docent-led tour that demonstrates low-maintenance and water-conserving plants, along with environmentally friendly pest management methods and stunning landscape techniques and designs. After the tour, you'll have some free time to roam around the gardens on your own.

Then it's time for lunch. Enjoy your own sack lunch in a nearby public park with an exquisite fountain, then move on to the Ruth Bancroft Garden. The mission of the garden is to preserve this exceptional example of garden design and to continue to develop its collection of water-conserving plants for the education and enjoyment of the public. You will again go on a docent-led tour where you'll see numerous examples of cacti, succulents, and other water-conserving plants in beautiful settings. There will also be a public sculpture exhibit throughout the garden during your visit, which should make the trip even more enjoyable. You'll have some free time after the tour, and you can take the time to purchase from the selection of plants for sale before boarding the bus for the ride home.

Bring your own sack lunch. Water will be provided.

Andria Bersi has been teaching horticulture classes for San Joaquin Delta College for the last five years and runs her own consultation and design business.
