The Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Water Pollution Control Program (WPCP) Preparation Manual and project Standard Special Provisions require that the contractor's SWPPP preparer and Water Pollution Control Manager (WPCM) have a minimum of 24 hours of formal storm water management training. This course is certified by Caltrans to meet that requirement. This fully online course is designed to be self-paced and open-entry / open-exit. You are finished when the required course work and final exam have been completed satisfactorily.

Some additional information regarding this SWPPP training program -

  • There are 7 modules. No books/materials are sent, they are all downloaded.
  • Students must complete a module and quiz before moving on to the next level. Students are allowed 3 attempts to pass the quiz. If they don't, they're done.
  • Once all 7 modules are complete, students can take the final. The final is comprised of a random selection of questions from all the quizzes.
  • Students have 1 opportunity to take the final. They must achieve 80% or better to pass. If they don't, they're done.
  • When students pass the final, they must then complete a practice SWPPP plan. At the instructor's direction, students must prepare a SWPPP plan and submit it to the instructor to demonstrate their knowledge, ability, and proficiency in SWPPP. They get one chance to pass. If they do not pass this portion of the course, they are done. If they pass this final part of the course they are then SWPPP certified.
  • Students are not made to wait until the end date of the course to receive their certificate (please allow several weeks to receive your final grade).
  • The instructor then notifies CalTrans of those who are SWPPP certified.
