Center Services Available to Your Organization The real value of the Nonprofit Resource Center at Shasta College is in the services we offer to all nonprofit & philanthropic organizations and the people who staff and support those organizations.

Our mission has been to help nonprofit and philanthropic organizations thrive! Our vision is to be the premier Center for the achievement of excellence and the catalyst for creative solutions in the nonprofit and philanthropic community. We accomplish this vision through providing information, education, and consulting services. The Center is a one-stop resource for board members, staff, and volunteers of nonprofit organizations.

Get the most out of the Center by attending the "Center Orientation"! First time users/non-members are required to attend the Center Orientation prior to using the Center:

    As a member of the Center for Nonprofit Resources, you will receive benefits that help your organization grow. Some of these benefits include:

  • Unrestricted and priority access to the Center's Library and Foundation Center's database for grant research. This database is the Foundation Directory Online; 'The Grantmaker Database' that contains more than 92,000 profiles of private foundations, grant making public charities, and corporate giving programs.
  • Free classes! Fee waiver on "selected" non-credit nonprofit face-to-face courses.
  • A subscription to the EWD email newsletter full of program and services information, calendar of events, updates, and more.
  • Free use of the center during the day for your organization's meetings, classes, trainings, etc.; and evening hours are available (advance reservations required, first-come first-serve basis).
  • Ability to check out books and resource materials at no cost.

    The Center for Nonprofit Resources is a self-funded arm of the EWD program and your membership will allow the Center to continue to meet the costs associated with these services. Join today!

          Learn how to write great grant proposals? The do's and don'ts of grant proposal writing, supporting documents required to submit a proposal, and how you obtain applications and annual reports from Foundations. This workshop will take participants through the summary, introduction, needs statement, methods, evaluation and budget.

       A to Z Grant WritingTell a Friend!
     
          A to Z Grant Writing is an invigorating and informative course that will equip you with the skills and tools you need to enter the exciting field of grant writing! You'll learn how to raise needed funds by discovering how and where to look for potential funders who are a good match for your organization. You'll also learn how to network and develop true partnerships with a variety of funders, how to organize a successful grant writing campaign, and how to put together a complete proposal package.

    This course speaks mainly to nonprofit organizations, schools, religious institutions, and municipalities seeking grants from foundation, corporate, government, and individual donors. But many of the elements easily translate to the for-profit field and to individual artists, and material specifically designed for businesses and individuals is also included. No matter who you are or what level of experience you have, you'll find the A to Z of writing and submitting successful proposals here!

The instructor for this course will be Linda Vallejo.           Do you know the best way to present information in a grant proposal? In this course, an experienced grant writer will show you how to research and write winning proposals that get funded. You'll become proficient in the proposal format used by the vast majority of public foundations. Learn what to do--and, more importantly what not to do--on your cover sheet, narrative, background page, and your stakeholder and third-party evaluation plan.

    You'll also discover the quickest and most efficient ways to gather the information you'll need to develop your proposals attachments, including information on your organization's structure, administration, and finances.

    And you'll gain a full understanding of the criteria funders use to determine whether your grant proposal gets funded or rejected.           Turn your business ideas into a solid plan for financing and long-term success. Committing your idea to paper in the form of a business plan not only increases your chances of obtaining financing, but also in keeping your business strategically focused.        Going Green at the WorkplaceTell a Friend!
     
          Learn how to position your business as a responsible environmental leader in a world of green consumers and carbon-conscious regulators. In this course, you'll discover how to save energy, save money, and reduce your carbon footprint, all at the same time.

    First, we'll talk about how you can trim your energy costs without reducing your productivity by making your lighting, HVAC, and building control systems more efficient. After that, we'll explore ways to cut your water bill and look at waste reduction strategies that can save you money while helping you move toward a sustainable business model. We'll also delve into transportation and shipping, examining the benefits of alternative fuels, hybrids, and all-electric vehicles.

    Next, you'll get a primer on renewable energy and learn how to integrate wind and solar power into your energy use plan. You'll also learn about buying green power, carbon offsets, and renewable energy credits. And finally, you'll get the information you need about LEED accreditation and how to measure and manage your carbon emissions in order to comply with any eventual carbon tax or cap-and-trade system.

    Throughout the course, you'll examine real-world examples of energy-saving solutions and find out how to calculate the costs, benefits, and paybacks of these projects. You'll also learn how to communicate the environmental benefits of your actions to your customers and your business partners, transforming your business into a leader in the green economy.

The instructor for this course will be Brad Bergman. Brad has spent his entire career working with low-carbon technologies. He has experience generating both nuclear power and utility-scale solar-thermal power. He has also helped numerous businesses and local governments implement energy-saving sustainability strategies as a demand-side energy management specialist. His formal education includes both Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology, and he holds an MBA with a specialization in Technology Management. Brad currently works as a renewable energy professional and teaches classes as an adjunct professor.

    For those who work with or desire to work in a non-profit organization or business environment, this is the program for you. The Non-Profit Management Program is particularly well suited for anyone in the non-profit field who has recently assumed management responsibilities, anyone who is working in a non-profit organization, or anyone who wants a basic and introductory perspective on some of the unique issues facing management of a non-profit organization. This certificate program consists of 10 modules geared to provide the basic essential information in a timely manner designed to fit your busy work and family schedules. You will examine the fundamental principles of non-profit management as well as the roles and responsibilities of a nonprofit board of directors and the management team, examine the essential aspects of fundraising, and become acquainted with the fundamentals of the budgeting process. Upon registering, you are given an initial six months to complete the program. Should you need more time, you may request a 6-month extension at no additional charge.

    Course Objectives

    By completing the Non-Profit Management Studies course, students will:

  • Examine the fundamental principles of non-profit management, as well as the roles and responsibilities of a nonprofit board of directors and the management team
  • Develop the basic practical and managerial skills necessary to successfully plan for operational success
  • Understand basic financial and accounting terms, even if they have no financial background

          Come Join Us! The Center for Nonprofit Resources is hosting a Brown Bag Networking Lunch every second Wednesday of the month at the Center. This networking luncheon is growing, giving members a great opportunity to network at no cost. Each member brings their own lunch and has an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with fellow Members in an informal setting. Upon Members' request, guest speakers will be arranged.

    Benefits of Networking:
