| | This course provides a brief introduction to northern California birds and our local habitats. The course is suitable for the general public as well as students, professionals, or others interested in our local natural resources. Topics include identification and birding techniques, habitat ecology, and backyard bird feeding; focusing on northern California. The class includes a Saturday field trip to a local birding hotspot.
Topics that will be covered:
Bird identification basics, birding tools, etc.
Local bird species
Local habitat ecology
Backyard bird feeding and habitat landscaping
Local conservation issues and restoration projects
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to learn many species of birds found in Northern California along with an understanding of local habitat ecology. Students will also gain awareness of management and conservation issues as local projects are used as examples. |

| | This course provides a brief introduction to many wildlife and wildlife-related topics and is suitable for the general public as well as students, professionals, or others interested in our local natural resources. Many topics are discussed, including species identification, management issues, survey techniques, regulatory framework, habitat ecology, and field identification with a focus on northern California. The class includes one Saturday field trip to a local wildlife hotspot.

Local mammal species
Other local wildlife
Local habitat ecology
Environmental regulatory framework and special-status species
Local conservation issues and restoration projects
